Could These Be Our Next Top Cheftestants?

While Top Chef Season 6 is still trudging along (has there ever been a more obvious final 4?) Top Chef’s producers are hard at work casting Season 7. Eater NY visited the New York City casting call and got to meet a few of the potential victims. The Top Chef casting call in New York also coincided with the casting call for the recently announced spin-off Just Desserts. Some highlights from their piece include a potential cheftestant who works in a taco truck, one dude who claims to never have seen the show (which may work to his advantage if he does make it), a bakery owner who thought they were looking for a host, a chef trying out for their fourth time, and a small bunch of people with big names in their resumes including putting in time at places like Aquavit, Per Se, the Ritz Carlton and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon.
For a bit of contrast, there was also a similar piece in the Miami New Times about the Miami try-outs where the potentials included a chef at Maggiano’s (that could also be very interesting to watch as they could probably follow direction way better than a more pretentious chef), and a dude who said he’d once been on MTV’s Room Raiders. Also in the running: the executive chef for the Miami Dolphins, a few culinary students and a Jamaican chef who worked for years at the Ritz Carlton. Definitely a switch from the celebrity chef underlings at the New York casting.
