Date My Ex: An Opinion
This weekend, I caught up on the new Bravo show, “Date My Ex” -and had some mixed feelings about it. Essentially, it’s about a boyfriend who was too old and overbearing for a young woman who was still trying to find herself. “Jo” was wanting to be in LA, to be a musician and enjoy the nightlife -while her boyfriend, “Slade” was looking for a housewife to sit around and be domestic while he made all the money -that would supposedly keep everyone happy.
Yea, right. That didn’t last long. Especially in California.
So after a lot of soul searching and struggling, Jo finally moved out of Slade’s house and moved on into an apartment with friend to L.A.
Well, sort of. Bravo TV stepped in and thought, “How about making a series where the ex-beau finds a new love for his former fiance?” Yea, a pretty “Bravo” idea there, huh?
I watched the trials and dribble-ations of the two not-so-love-birds over the weekend. Then, after the official split, it didn’t really get much better, but yes, it got more interesting.
The new dates were the best part… Jo had 4 new guys to choose from… all with Slade’s input and housing arrangements. Weird, I know. But what was that all about anyway? With each new date, Jo gets a present (mysteriously presented in the same hokey polka-dot hat box… I thought that was pretty lame-o… but… I guess the show has a budget).
Anyway, the dates began…. and I knew that when the one guy took her fishing in THE MORNING that he would not be the primo choice. The first date that took her to dinner and just yapped his piehole all night was also a big no-go….. But when Jo was taken on a helicopter ride over the lights of LA, I thought, “Yea, that guy is a shoe in…” until the sexy rock climber stepped in and Jo couldn’t help herself but comment on his “cute butt” for the rest of the episode…
But(t), as the case may be, Jo had more interesting prospects in mind than viewing one’s behind…. she picked the talent agent that took her for a ride -literally- via chopper over sweet cheeks in the end. Much to Slade’s chagrin.
He’s cocky, but he’s got money and works in the industry she’s trying to break into. That’s a no-brainer.
However, I’m not buying Slade’s input or his true interest. You can tell, he’s not too hot about the whole idea of this reality show- much less picking the next guy for his former lady.
And let’s face it: Jo isn’t a real good catch. She’s pretty ditzy, not too many skills in her bag of tricks and doesn’t have much to offer other than a good manicure. She’s not interesting or that terribly attractive - she’s just spoiled and has a best friend with a British accent (who has a lot more personality than cardboard Jo).
Just my two cents. I’m not feeling the whole “Date My Ex” right now. Your opinions are welcome…!

I’ve watched some of the 1st episode & found it to be very boring with no substance. Jo is not necessarily the woman any of those guys who want a date in real life, but hey they get to be on TV. Jo is a character who tries very hard to fit into a life style that obviously doesn’t fit her. Please send her to school, get a degree or at least offer her a job, she needs all the skills she can get.
