Top Chef Takes A Trip Down Memory Lane

November 4, 2009 by Maria Diaz

When I first read a description of tonight’s Top Chef episode, a dinner for some of the most controversial chef-testants including Season 1’s Tiffani and Season 2’s Marcel, hosted by Season 5’s Fabio Viviani, I was skeptical. Top Chef is usually where I go to get a break from the usual Bravo dramatics, and I don’t want wig-pulling in my classy little Wednesday night.

However, I just saw a preview clip from tonight’s episode and it’s looking really interesting. All the former contestants start to talk openly about how they were portrayed on the show and who they feel was shown in a bad light. In particular, they bring up Carla and Casey from last season’s finale, where Casey was ultimately blamed for Carla’s poor performance at the last dinner. What I wanted to ask was why didn’t anyone bring up the fact that Casey trashed Carla to a blogger the night the episode aired? At the end, Fabio asks that the cameras get shut off to say something in private to everyone else. I think it’s interesting because rarely do we hear reality contestants talk about the strangeness of being on TV. I’m curious to see where this episode heads.

Yawn. That was boring. . .

Having a dinner fixed by the reunionees was a new, seemingly interesting setting, rather than a bunch of people sitting on couches talking about what they are up to now and explaining past show behavior, but by the time they sat down to eat I was bored with the clips and the rehash and switched it off. I found Casey even more annoying this time around, and Fabio as host was blah.

I did, as before, enjoy Stefan and…. I guess that’s it.

Reminded once again why I don’t care for reunion shows in general.

Carla was gracious as usual. I did like that Fabio wasn’t going to let people off the hook. Andy Cohen should give the lecture next time a Housewife says she feels like she is being set up or when she tries to move on to the next question.
Maybe there can be a Top Chef Top Chef Competition after the next Top Chef Masters. The selection of attendees was weird. I missed Dave from Season 1.

oops, and I missed SAM… Hubba Hubba. Just dip him in chocolate for the dessert course
